Eighteen great oaks lining Wando Plantation Way are dying or in serious decline.  The POA Board of Directors has been working with an arborist for the past two years to assess opportunities to save the oaks and to assess the risks of the oaks’ falling limbs impacting lives and property.  Now that five of the oaks have been designated as presenting meaningful risks it is prudent for the board to initiate risk mitigation steps.  One of the steps is to inform Dunes West residents of the risks and share the insights of the arborist.  This was done in a town hall meeting on November 18, 2024.  The meeting was attended by approximately 75 people, the POA Board, and two credentialed arborists from Savatree Charleston.  Ash Connelly, the primary arborist working for Dunes West, discussed the status of these great oaks, the...

April 3, 2025 Dear Residents,  As you know, we have had several deer poaching incidents over the past year and the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR) has been actively investigating. We have received an update from the department and we wanted to share the information with you.  Due to these incidents, SCDNR will now be patrolling Dunes West throughout the evenings and as late as sunrise on random dates and times. They may be using marked and unmarked pickup trucks, off road vehicles and drones for aerial coverage. In addition to searching for potential poaching, they will be identifying and reporting persons who have established a deer feeding station or routine.
